    Walk-through Evaluation

    ½–2 days

    An overview of a plant compressed air system by identifying the types, needs, and appropriateness of end uses, pressures, and air quality requirements.

    Distribution system analyzed for size, pressure drops, storage, leaks, and drains
    Supply side analyzed for compressor types and capacity control settings
    Simple block diagram of the system drawn

    System Assessment

    2–5 days

    More detailed than a walk-through evaluation, with readings taken at appropriate locations to identify the dynamics of the system.

    Compressed Air System Audit Checklist

    Comprehensive system analysis conducted by an experienced auditor

    Establish a baseline against which the results of any proposed changes are measured.

    Draw a block diagram and review the compressor room to determine present compressor operations, control strategy, and storage capacity.

    Record compressor and dryer pressures and temperatures.

    Validate end-use pressure and quality requirements.

    Conduct data logging of power and pressure (and flow, if applicable) throughout the system. Provide graphs showing data collected over time.

    Construct a demand profile to identify significant end-uses and their impact.

    Construct a pressure profile to identify what determines system operating pressure and possible changes.

    Review primary and secondary air receiver capacities.

    Establish a controls strategy through real-time analysis.
